There are certain stories which narrate how an idea can transform into a passage of revolution! MRH Digital Systems was Ranjit Thakur’s family business which served for installation and servicing of professional audio and video equipments. It was his meticulous efforts that landed him and his endeavours in all new vistas.
It was 2007 when this inherent businessman established “Scrabble Entertainment Private Limited”, which embarked on scribbling a new episode in the digital history with an aim to convert all Indian theatres from analog to digital. It catered as India’s first and only 2K DCI Compliant Cinema Deployment Entity. The organization attained 100% conversion of all multiplexes in country into 2K Digital cinema Platform. It is now, one of the leading Digital Cinema solution company contracted to release contents in India of major Hollywood Studios bracketing Sony Entertainment, Fox Star, Viacom, Disney, UTV, Universal Studios and Warner Brothers. It can be simply described if Indian audiences are watching Hollywood movies on the date of their worldwide release, it is the gift of Scrabble Entertainment to them!
Span of 5 years gave a whole new digital face to media and entertainment world. Came 2012; vision got magnified and came out in face of “Krian Media Limited” which was an extension to servicing of cinemas in digital space. Besides providing professional audio and visual systems to theatres and currently servicing over 700 screens in India including clients such as PVR, Cinemax, Inox, Fame and Big Cinemas, Krian Media creates, produces, markets and distributes content across the globe under Krian Pictures. Ranjit Thakur partners for 51% share in an international cinema chain called Cine-Grand with multiplexes in Romania, Bulgaria and USA.
Moving on to 2014, Ranjit sold his share in Scrabble Entertainment and founded “Media Konnect” - An online Global media exchange platform that addresses the challenges that the film industry is facing today. He was surprised to know that although the Indian media and entertainment sector grew by 12% that year, the success rate of Indian films was just 5%.
Ranjit travelled across 13 countries, meeting directors, scriptwriters in both the Hollywood and Bollywood industries along the way. The key learning was the need to establish a platform that would reduce the cost of content creation and increase the opportunities to monetize the content. A platform that would bridge the gap in the media and entertainment industry, find the best talent across platforms and increase the revenue of the filmmaker.
