In order to find some of the best music in the country, one must travel far and update their playlist along the way. But Meghalaya’s premier institute – Centre of Excellence in Indian and Western Music brings their music to you from the farthest corners of India with a mesmerizing performance at the Hard Rock Café, Mumbai. Shaan, Meet Brothers, Amit Trivedi, Tochi Raina, Onir, Habib Faisal and other big names in the industry, witnessed a memorable musical performance and launch from the institute’s latest musical collaborations.
“In Megalaya, music is not just a hobby but an integral part of life. The Centre of Excellence in Indian and Western Music was established with the vision of giving wings to the young musicians there. Our approach in the entire process of mentoring has been to help them manifest their own original expressions and individual voices and not create clones of famous singers. With the help of the Government of Meghalaya, the centre charges no fees from the students and selects them based solely on their talent and enthusiasm. Their exposure to Indian music was restricted to contemporary Bollywood. We are glad that within just a year of our mentoring, our students have excelled enough in both Indian and Western music to have their first set of original compositions released. We promise to bring you fresh compositions every year” says Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharjee, Chief Creative Mentor at the institute.
The music institute looks forward to encapture and set the tune to a new beat in the country as they release these songs live and upload instantly on Youtube. The performance also witnessed Programme Director of the school, Ms. Sucheta Bhattacharjee perform live with the students and mentors. India’s musical prodigy and mentor at the institute – Sayed Rahi Umair also inaugurated the event with the launch of the song “To Le Ja Mujhe”. The musical evening saw the launch of 7 original compositions by the artists from the institute!
To top off a musical night with talented artists and celebrities, the program also witnessed the breathtaking works of internationally renowned painter – Subodh Poddar, who captured the live performance on canvas. The night inspired to bring fresh musical talent from the farthest reaches of our country and left an impactful message in the hearts of Mumbai’s film and music industry.
