Can justice have a voice? Union Leader seeks to bring to light the issues that traumatize our society and leave our billions unheard. With the theme of giving justice to the workers of a chemical factory, this story gives a voice to most of the troubles that are left unanswered in our society today.
On his Directorial Debut as a filmmaker, Sanjay Patel says that this film was a great experience and a real challenge that he is proud to present to you.
“When you are doing pre-production, you need to be there physically. In my case, I was out for the entire pre-production phase and coordinating was a challenge which I overcame. I would wake up in the middle of the night and talk to all the head of departments to make sure everything goes as per the plan and I’m happy that this film came out as what I wanted it to be.” Says Director Sanjay Patel to Media Konnect.
The cast of this drama film includes Rahul Bhatt, Tillotama Shome, Samvedna Suwalka, Jay Bhatt, Mehul Buch, Vivek Ghamande, Sudhir Pandit, Jayesh More and Prashant Barot.
Vivek Ghamande, a popular character who has played supporting roles in films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Dirty Picture, Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani amongst others, plays yet another important role in this upcoming film –
“I played the character of a diploma chemical engineering student who has just got his first job as a chemical plant worker. My character in this film has less practical knowledge and doesn’t know how to judge the situation around him well. In the film, I realize that there is no real safety measures for the chemical plant workers and that people are taking in the chemical Chromium Sulphate and dying. I raise the awareness that builds the climax of the film. This character that I played was completely different from any role that I have read and that was the biggest challenge that I had to overcome as an actor for Film Union.” says Vivek Ghamande to Media Konnect.
In our real lives, we always seek to find an answer to the social problems that push us back. Fighting for the rights of the citizens, Union Leader gives us the strength and courage to believe that we are the ones who can make that change in society. The film has raised the issue of many and we must ask ourselves – should this film be free of tax?
Talking on the scope of Union Leader and the future of Bollywood, Director Sanjay Patel said –
“Although our industry is dominated by Masala films, I would say that it is evolving. I got the inspiration for making Union Leader from all the Hollywood films that talk about Indians, corporate greed and subjects along those lines. So that is the main reason for making this film. I just want to tell people that this film is not just about the environment or bad working conditions. This is a nice family drama as a whole. This is the story of a worker who wants to provide a better life for his family. He wants to make his son a doctor and that’s the story of so many families in India. It’s not only chemical plants and other bad things that we are talking about. It’s a nice family drama which I believe Bollywood is going to love and am confident that the audience would enjoy.”
Union Leader is releasing on the 19th of January 2018. To watch the trailer of the film click here.
