It wasn’t long till Director Mukesh Chhabra who worked as a Casting Director first witnessed Sanjana Sanghi at an audition for Rockstar. Then just 14 years old, Sanjana’s character as the younger sister to Nargis Fakhri in Rockstar (2011) inspired the young actress to many more successful ventures ahead.
Now, a promising lead alongside Actor Sushant Singh Rajput, her latest film is attracting movie goers and fans across the country. A debut for both Mukesh Chhabra and Sanjana Sanghi, the former showed his love by taking to twitter and welcoming the talented actress on board. Even Co-star Sushant Singh Rajput greeted her on making it here.
But where did this journey begin for the young star?
Sanjana Sanghi, a graduate from LSR College in Delhi, began her journey into films at the age of 14. Her family wasn’t from a film background, but that didn’t stop her from grabbing the role of Nargis Fakhri’s younger sister in Imtiaz Ali’s 2011 hit - Rockstar. She had beaten an estimate 20,000 women for this role. The talented actress became a popular choice for a number of films and advertisements that followed. Rockstar’s box office hit saw Sanjana grab the spotlight for Hindi Medium in 2017 and Fukrey Returns in the same year!
“Rockstar will always remain much more than just a film, for everyone who created it and everyone who watched it. As a 14 year old studying in school, I was not remotely aware of the magic being created around me. In hindsight, it changed something within me forever. I don’t remember the grandeur, but I vividly remember some feelings, some moments, some smells - through the valleys of Kashmir, the quaintness of Dharamshala and the quirkiness of Delhi.” Said Sanjana Sanghi.
As a fresh face and young model, Sanjana has experimented off the silver screen as well. She has appeared in several ad campaigns for big brands down the years. Some of these include – the Vodafone (made for you) offers, Dabur Almond Hair Oil, Subway sandwiches, Tanishq Jewelleries, Coca Cola among other names. Her passion for writing, music and dancing makes her an all-round talent, something that has been difficult to find in the industry. From being a sub-editor at The Saltlist, to being a trained Jazz and Kathak dancer, to finally starring a lead debut in Mukesh Chhabra’s film, the young actress has come a long way in a short period of time.
Remaking the Hollywood Drama The Fault In Our Stars with the same name has its challenges, but the film has battled out all odds even before the film’s release. The Hindi remake has garnered a lot of buzz and has even gone to become the most awaited movie of the year. The teaser has also become the most watched trailer within 24hours of its release! Musical maestro AR Rahman has been roped in to score music for the upcoming film.
Today, as she prepares for her role alongside Sushant Singh Rajput, the young talent proves to be taking promising strides in becoming one of the industries finest. It’s definitely going to be exciting to see Sanjana Sanghi star in her first full-fledged Hindi film!
